I have very good first impressions of this unit after installing it. I will update this review in about a month of the heating season which starts very soon. I bought this unit to replace a unit about 10 years old that had smaller 18 watt twin bulbs. The second ballast that recently failed. The first one failed over a year ago, so the device is not working now. I first tried to find replacement parts to replace or upgrade the ballasts in my existing unit. However, I found the cost prohibitive compared to this brand new unit which also came with a new warranty and more powerful 36 watt bulbs. Celebration. Water lines from the water heater and a small copper line for the humidifier are located nearby, making the unit difficult to maneuver. The device is also placed directly under the false ceiling. The included alignment aid was sufficient to show me where to drill mounting holes and what additional sheet metal to cut to make room for the lamp. I already had a hole in the duct where the previous device was installed. I simply reused this and expanded with metal snips as needed to accommodate the new lamp alignment. Two external LEDs showing the working status of the lamps are very bright in a dark room, easy to see and very useful for confirming work. The unit I replaced only had an external sight glass to show you the working condition but couldn't tell at a glance if your bulb was blown. This unit also has an external replaceable fuse and a spare fuse is included. The block I replaced did not burn out. The installation didn't take long. The device fits well and hugs the canal snugly. After installation and initial activation, I temporarily sealed the status indicators with a piece of tape. When the room was dark I applied metal tape to some seams in the sheet metal where a small amount of diffuse ultraviolet light could be seen. Two light bulbs with a light output of 72 watts made this clearly visible. The device has made a noticeable difference in indoor air quality in a very short time. There was a slight initial odor. It wasn't uncomfortable, however, but it was noticeable. This was probably because the incandescent bulbs were much better at bathing the A/C coil under ultraviolet light. This killed any mold and mildew that had formed after the previous unit stopped working. After a short time, just a few days, this smell completely disappeared, like other smells in the house that returned due to the failure of the old unit. We have a circulation fan and UV rays running constantly to filter the air and even out the temperature inside the house. I recommend this for maximum air cleaning efficiency in your home or office.
