I did not receive the insert and contacted the seller after an intercity trip without it. They sent a brand new team. The bag is lined to prevent leakage, and although the sweat shovel's filling (recommended) stuck to the edge a bit, it separated easily and washed out of the hose. We used it for cross country trips. We have used it several times to visit relatives. This is normal for a medium-sized cat, but if you have a pet, it can feel tight. Ours found a way to sit on the side of the bag and whistle. It was a learning experience but worked well for travel and was relatively easy to clean, which is essential in a car.
