I had the Thermo-Pen brand a few years ago and it was great - accurate, fast and very easy to use. But it was NOT waterproof and after falling in my kitchen sink one night it died and never worked again. I recently bought a new digital thermometer, read the reviews on this one and decided to give it a try. Shows the temperature VERY. fast and accurate when you open it (it opens just like the thermo pen), it has a backlight that can be turned on by pressing one of the buttons on the display side of the thermometer. The probe mechanism is a bit stiffer than the thermo pen, but that may be due to the waterproofing. If you look at it, it looks like it could survive being submerged in a kitchen sink. So far it's been great. I will buy more if something happens to it.
