The horns themselves smell nice, very subtle but also pleasant when burning. However, after the cone is done, it leaves an oily residue with an unusually sharp, acrid, burning odor, which I spent two days trying to eliminate. I don't smoke but I grew up with a smoker and it's like sticking your face straight into a used ashtray that has never been cleaned. My backflow incense burner now stinks completely, filling every room with an extremely strong burnt ashtray smell, even after it has been thoroughly cleaned and soaked in vinegar overnight. You may just have to throw it away and replace it. My clothes smell, my hands stank for hours after being treated with oil residue even after multiple washes, even my sheets and blanket in my bedroom stank and needed washing. I ended up burning some incense cones on a small glass plate and then sniffed the plate and sure enough, there was a horrible stench. I don't understand how a well rated product can have such a strong and terrible smell after using it. Perhaps I received an old supply of mixed or rancid oils? I absolutely cannot underestimate how bad this is. Again, the waffles themselves smell nice, slightly fruity-floral, not quite "vanilla" or "coffee" as advertised, but definitely not bad, and they smelled nice when burned. It's the burnt oil residue they leave behind when they're done that has that horrible ashtray smell that has now permeated my bedroom and everything in it.
