I'm just starting my first seawater tank and have read all over the forums that refractometers are much more accurate than a typical $10 hydrometer. Mid-range refractometers can be found for around $50, but accurate readings require precise lighting conditions. During my research I came across this digital refractometer and started reading reviews online. People seem very happy so I decided to give it a try. Especially since I will be using this on a weekly basis I need something reliable and easy to use. Every time I use this, I start with a small RO/DI pipette of water and always get a perfect reading of 1,000 SG. Then I do the same method with salt water and it works every time. I checked the first few times with my cheap hydrometer and it's well worth the money. It's a little expensive. But I wanted something simple, reliable and accurate and that's what I got. So far + on this device. It measures salinity in three ways and even adjusts the temperature. I don't think it will get much better.
