Robust design protects against wind and vibration. The rigid ball joint provides the final alignment. Compared to standard round mirrors, the long geometry provides a single mirror with a dual lane view, including a clear view of a rapidly approaching clown. So for use on an e-bike, I think a mirror mounted on the left is sufficient. Note in the photo the placement under the bracket which after 90,000 miles on the Moto-Guzzi I can tell you is the preferred position on the day you hit something hard and fly over the handlebars.
