Review on BD Diesel Performance Black Transmission Pan - Model 1061525 by Jeremy Jackz

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Fits well, does not leak, easy to do when servicing the gearbox.

Includes pan, gasket, 1/8" male connector for temp sensor when not in use. The drain plug has a magnet for ferrous metal. There are 15 M6 x 1.0 metric screws and 15 M6 x 12 stainless steel washers. I counted the screws in the box before opening it, but when I went to install the pallet there were only 14 washers. On my 2012 Ram 3500 with 68RFE, fifteen screws have 8mm heads. The torx screw holding the bottom filter is T25. BD screws require a 5mm hex. I used a small oil filter removal tool I have at my shop to remove the coolant line filter. The seal used for the bottom filter can hardly be removed. Examine yours and if it looks ok you can just leave it in place. The small amount of RTV gasket stuck to the gear case was easily removed with my fingernail. The BD gasket does not require an RTV to seal if your case is clean. Right or wrong, I left the truck overnight and pulled out the cold transmission pan. I let it drain for an hour. With the extra space in the new sump, I used 13 liters of ATF+4 to completely fill the case after the transmission warmed up. I went up I-70 from 7,500 feet to 10,500 feet, pushing the truck hard, and the transmission temp never rose above 158 degrees Fahrenheit. Use the criss-cross method to tighten the new pan, finally making sure each bolt is 105 inches long. pounds or 8.75 ft-lbs. Use the two or three step method to avoid over tightening a single screw.

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • Very expensive
