Inexpensive

I live in a row of terraced houses. All garbage cans are piled up at the end of our "alley" on the main street. With very little light here, it's hard to know which glass is yours when you get home from work. The banks are provided by the municipality and are identical. I tied the blue ribbon together and it worked great for a couple of months. Now my neighbors have followed and noticed its practicality. However, some also used blue ribbons. It's still easy to figure out which of the 4 cans is mine and which 1 of the 12, but I had to change something. I wove paracord and wrapped it around the handles of my jar. Sometimes, depending on when I get home from work, it's pretty easy to tell the difference. After 1 month. It doesn't seem to absorb/emit as much light. Weathering by the elements probably also played a role. It was a good experiment that worked pretty well. And it's still easy to tell when I'm within 10 feet of the cans. I will most likely unravel it and use it to hang litter/food on my next trip as my old twine has worn out for this purpose. If I can find/invent a small waterproof case I'll probably try to hook up a single button battery LED. As I approach, push the button and hopefully it will light up. But this product worked for its intended purpose with full confidence that it would "lose its shine" over time.
