Real metal for work. No plastic. The stand is definitely designed to mount large TVs as advertised. They included 4 different sizes of screws to attach the TV to the bracket but I still had to buy the correct screws for mine. Like most other things, it's made in China, so the instructions can be slightly edited for English speaking readers. The smoked glass base is very durable and also serves as a shelf. The smaller shelf is made of metal and is designed to hold one of your entertainment devices/players. I'm glad I bought this one.
