I use a pair when I want to be as comfortable as possible and a little fancy. I bought a second pair to wear under my mittens when cycling in 25 degree weather. I like the way these gloves feel and look. They're not enough on their own in say 30 or 35 degrees, but no glove is also huge and bulky to work in this cold weather.
