Great For My Purpose

I bought this because I needed a way to get my sun lamp up higher over a plant that I have to keep up and away from my kitty. I knew a tall tension rod would fit the bill but most stores don't carry the extended sizes. This arrived as promised, packed well. Installation is EASY. There's a simple 1,2, 3 instruction pamphlet enclosed and it really is that easy. You extend it by twisting it out about 1.5-2" past the opening where you want it to fit, put one end in then squeeze back the other end and let go, thereby creating the "tension" in tension rod. Some have said it's difficult to reposition and you're going to find that in most tension rods by design. Would you want to hang something on it and have it slip easily? No? Well there you go. It's designed to stay in place. If you put it up and feel it's not where you want it, just squeeze the adjustable end like you did to get it in there, move it and let it go again to re-establish the tension. Remember, you want it tightly in the space to serve the purpose! Overall I think this is a good product. I cannot speak to how much weight it would hold based on my own use but I will say it's not as big in diameter as other (shower) tension rods I've used for curtains, purchased at a major Mart retailer. I would say though that for light to average weight curtains and certainly if you need it for something like a shower curtain or average-weight room divider, it should be fine so long as no one is yanking on the material. For anything like hanging a row of plants on it etc., of a higher weight, just for "better safe than sorry" philosophy, if it were me I'd invest in something more sturdy with drilled brackets on your wall. If you must not drill in an apartment for example, a larger diameter "heavy duty" tension rod would probably be wiser.

Pros
  • Good, sturdy rod at a good value. I recommend
Cons
  • May not be suitable for use in rooms with toddlers
