Here is what I don’t want to say to a friend when I send them a gel nail polish kit for beginners."I’m sending you a beginner gel nail polish kit from Revain because I know you can’t get out right now and I want you to be able to do your nails from home. When it arrives you’re going to want to be really careful opening the box of polish because one of them probably leaked. No worries.you can use one (or more) of the nail remover pads from the kit to clean up that mess. It will smell though, so maybe do this part outside. Now you’re into the stuff in the zip-top bag. You’re going to find two pretty good cushioned nail files in there and a good number of nail cleaning and nail remover pads, but only use the other tools if you don’t already have something that’ll do the job.Next you’re going to want to plug in the lamp. I know it might have dark fingerprints on the inside, but you can just ignore them. You’re not looking at the inside anyway. Just use the same port as your phone. No, you can’t charge your phone while using the lamp. Now for the fun part! You get to swatch all the colors on the stickers they provide. You want to use a base cost and cure it because you’re replicating the entire process. You could even rough up the stickers first. I didn’t try that. Maybe you’ll have better results than I did. Most of the polished will go on well, but a couple of colors and all the glitter ones will be ridiculously thick. I think the best way to deal with that is to either do your best to get super thin coats and do maybe 4-6 coats. I say this because it’s hard to get a good amount of glitter in a thin coat. Run each coat of polish twice because the lamp may not be strong enough to cure it in one go. I had two swatches where the second coat slipped right off the first coat after I thought it was cured. It was a mess. You don’t have to put on a top coat, but it’s nice to finish it off.One by one peel the stickers off and cut off the extra nail polish that came up with them. It’s also a good idea to cut them all into small squares because they won’t fit on the top of the polish bottles if you don’t. I’d glue them on too. They come off pretty easily if you don’t. I tried to use the polish itself to make a seal over the top and around the edges to keep them on and it was a disaster. You should see what it looked like! It was messy looking but smooth when I went to sleep, but almost all of them looked like they had little worms under the surface of the polish when I woke up! I did end up redoing them with some success, but what a workout! Most everything had gone wrong by then so I just cracked up. I don’t want that to happen to you because you’re using gel for the first time and a bad result might really frustrate you and turn you off of DIY for a long time.”Ok! Excited? Give me a call after your phone is charged and we can talk about how to do your nails. It may take a while!”
