I know it's not intended for sharpening lawn mower blades, but I tripped over the curb and decided to test it out in the field. It's a bit difficult to apply enough pressure until the big notches start to flatten out. Until the notches are smoothed out, you should hit slow, "very short" strokes and experiment with pressure until you find a sweet spot. It also helps with choking. I brought the blade back to functional sharpness with no notches after 5 minutes. I think this tool will be most useful to me when I'm sharpening a lawn mower blade at home on my 1 X 30 grinder and just want to deburr the back without changing the angle. Sort of like not skewing the angle on the back of the bit, but in this case it really doesn't matter that much to get good results.
