Worked for 3 minutes on 2009 toyota matrix

I have a 2009 matrix. Dealer wanted $174. 99 per strut. These seemed doable. Installed in 8 minutes. They worked for less than 8 minutes. 3rd time they went up, they stalled. Now it's a crap shoot as to whether or not they'll open properly.
