Troubleshooting other reviews (will be updated over the next few months)

Before you start reading some of these you can skip to the end for a general summary.6/8/21Q- First , yes, this is a small, multi-purpose rice cooker, the way it's meant to be. At the same time, it is designed for preparing small portions. There was one customer who didn't get a manual with her, but I videotaped it and posted to her question. I will update this review with photos later. Use the correct portions of water needed for your rice and it won't get tough. Also, use at least average quality rice and not the cheapest rice you can find, as the cheapest rice won't cook properly no matter what rice cooker you use or even if you cook in a pot on the stove. Measure the water using the inside measurement on the cooking pot, not the rice cup. Because there is a difference between measuring cups for dry food (e.g. the rice cup that comes with it) and a measuring cup for liquids. I'm assuming you'll want to clean it sooner rather than later since it's a household appliance that you don't need. Leave leftover food for a few weeks in advance. If you want your gadgets and utensils to last, you need to clean them as soon as possible. The cooking insert is removable for cleaning, the internal steam valve slides out and the rear steam/drip tray slides out. As one review states, "the rubber nozzle stays attached to the lid" so food can cook properly. Simply wash the detachable parts and wipe down the inside and outside of the rice cooker. UPDATE: After cleaning it as suggested, I reopened it and noticed the smell of rice still lingering in the rice cooker. Automobile. So far 1 day works as expected. I'll keep updating to see if it breaks like others have said. UPDATE 7/22 It's been 44 days, I've only used it a couple of times. One thing I will note, the markings on the rice cooker seem a little for water, but today I'm making brown rice and I'm using 3 cups of rice and today I'm using the 1 inch finger method (first row) for water. The last time I cooked rice, it was overcooked and soft from too much water. So I figured it could make my rice cook and not be watery and overcook. Update: the rice came out clearly visible in the picture. I used 3 cups of rice (using the rice mug that came with the machine) and for the water I made about 1 inch above the rice, which is in the first line of your index finger. Measure by touching the rice with your fingertip and filling with water. up to the first finger line. Admittedly I didn't have high hopes for this rice cooker but found it great for my purposes and I was wrong as to its quality based on reviewers who may not have bothered to find out what to do . This is a decent rice cooker, especially for a college student. I would buy it as a gift for any family member. Using the finger method I was able to make 3 cups of perfect brown rice. And I got rid of the rice smell by putting some vinegar in the rice cooker and letting it steam for a few minutes. Clean the inside of the machine with a damp cloth but don't soak or submerge in water like I think other reviews might do. I see that this has been the case for years. I will update again in a few months or when the machine finally breaks like some reviewers claim.
