Let me start by saying that I have used many different types of crimping tools on many different connectors. Both for the automotive and for the industrial sector, additionally with several RJ11 connections (telephone). I'm usually good at crimping even relatively small connectors (I recently made some really tiny JST connectors on an interface harness), so I wasn't expecting much. Problem with this RJ45 kit. Well I was wrong. I read the directions on the box and it turned out to be pretty easy: strip the outer jacket off the cable, leave about 1/2 inch of insulated wire protruding from the jacket, making sure the end is cut squarely, being careful the polarity of the connector. cable and crimp the connector. just right? After a dozen tries I gave up. No matter what I did, I couldn't get the cable to pass the connection test. After crimping, the cables were twisted (an IE 2 wire on one end has continuity with a 3 or 6 wire on the other end. This can only happen with one pair of wires per cable, but it's enough to render it unusable I did my best to get the conductors lined up correctly but not the bones.No matter what I did the connection was always poorly tested.I think the main problem lies with the really cheap connectors that come in the kit Also maybe not holding the individual conductors in the position they are in. The terminals themselves weren't very secure either...it wasn't much of an effort to pry the crimp connector out.The crimping tool itself feels nice and the one supplied Cable Tester seems to do the job I'm almost ready to try again with other connectors but I'm tired of throwing good money for bad I return all this mess k and I'll start first, maybe with the help of Klein or Ideal Tools. Or maybe I can just put up with buying an extra long pre-made cable and trying to hide the extra length. All just so as not to spend another 1.5 hours on making such a kit.
