I am a metal engraver and bought this stone for polishing HSS and Carbide engravings. I use a variety of diamond bench stones so I'm fairly familiar with different grit sizes and I would say this stone is around 2200-2500 grit. This gives you a surgical polish, but not a mirror finish. So here's a little trick to help you save $50 on an "ultra thin" stone. Take a piece of 1000 grit sandpaper and sand down one side of the stone. Until it becomes smoother and softer. It doesn't take long, just a minute or so of light grinding, and magically you now have a "super fine stone". Now the side you sanded gives a mirror finish to what you are sharpening. And the glossy finish, I mean you can see the reflection in it. Just a little trick that will save you time, money and space. 🤘
