I was upset that Sonos was charging $650 for their Sonos amp, and I wasn't thrilled about being tied to their ecosystem. Also, I needed three of them, and $2,000 after tax was out of the question. I knew I could do better. Basically I decided to buy three amplifiers and three Chromecast audio systems to connect ceiling speakers in three different rooms. Between each amp and speaker I have a wall mounted volume control. So my setup is: Chromecast Audio -> Amp (Aux Line In) -> Volume Control -> Speakers. Based on this setting, the intention is to leave the amplifier volume at 100% to use the volume control on the wall of each room. Unfortunately, this amp was not suitable for this scenario and the sound was incredibly distorted. The lack of volume control seems to be the main reason, although I still leave the amp I ended up with at maximum volume. If your setup is similar to mine I would categorically avoid this amp. If my setup didn't have a wall-mounted volume control and I planned to control the volume with the volume controls on my phone or other streaming device, this amp *might* be an option. At maximum volume, the sound was severely distorted and 100% unacceptable to me.
