DON'T FOLLOW THE PATTERN

As mentioned, don't follow the pattern. I'm including an image to show the template I made for myself versus the one that came in the box. As you can see, the template is too wide. I hope that in addition to all the other warnings, the image will help people not to poke extra holes in their wall. This will be especially annoying for whoever places the anchors first. If anyone wants to make their own template, here's a way: take a piece of paper, fold it (importantly) evenly in half, leaving you with 11.5 inches (the "hot dog"). style"). Place the paper towel holder on the paper as if it were assembled, so both circles just touch the top. Make sure the part where it connects is aligned and straight, and draw Then make two circles.Measure the center of the circle and draw a vertical line straight down. You can level the paper and then use a bubble level to draw the line if like me you want to go overboard but you can probably just look at the vertical line. Then measure from top to bottom of the first hole above.Important: the bottom hole is a different distance to the top.It doesn't matter if you measured the first hole 100% correct,is important making sure it is in the center of the circle and that both marks are the same distance from the top. Then remove one of the clips on the back.Align the mark with the top hole, mark then punch the bottom hole twice in the middle of the bottom hole. You can either trace this circle and cut it out, or just use something sharp and pointed to pierce the point you made. Mark points and drill pilot holes or drywall anchor holes. If you're using drywall anchors, consider wide threaded screws for hanging things on drywall, or at least a better/easier drywall anchor. If you're pasting this into drywall, make sure the hole is smaller than the instructions say. The pilot holes must be at least as wide as the unthreaded screw and (obviously) no wider than the threaded screw. After installing it, I really liked the product. It looks great and more importantly, it's incredibly easy to change out. We use Charmin super strong toilet paper (because soft toilet paper that peels is terrible) and there's plenty of room. It makes a robust and easy-care impression. After installation, there are still no complaints about the actual product. I can't figure out why Moen hasn't fixed the template issue yet. This would probably be one of the most popular paper towel holders at Revain if they looked into it. This leads me to think there isn't a lot of feedback from customers getting to the people who need it, which doesn't give me a lot of confidence in Moen as a company. That's important enough because I may choose a different brand for faucets and other finishes in the future.
