I've never tried anything like this. I've wanted to reconfigure the grips on a couple of rifles and that seems like something to try. I went with the thicker material as I needed more rigidity compared to all the scabbards and holsters you can find examples of. I was a little worried about plasticity due to the thickness, but that wasn't an issue. I put it in a toaster at 350F for 5 minutes. I placed it on a piece of rolled up aluminum foil so the wire mesh wasn't showing. After a few minutes I started testing the "softness" of the Kydex every 30-45 seconds until it became pliable, assembled my homemade mold and everything worked. I was able to heat the same sheet multiple times by making adjustments to the shapes. I then used a heat gun to make the final shape. The material is easy to work with - I was surprised.
