As for the radios, they work very well. I haven't tested the three mile range, but they seem to have a pretty long range (over a long field). I think they are far enough away that children can talk to each other without restrictions. The controls are intuitive and easy to use. The instructions are simple and clear. Despite being plastic, they appear to be quite durable. I don't think they'll survive a hard tumble onto the pavement, but they should do fine in kid-sized grass or mud. The size is very convenient for a small hand. The buttons are easy to press and not too close together. I liked that they can be USB charged and don't rely on batteries as kids tend to leave things on and it eliminates the need to keep changing batteries. Her sound was great. The speakers are small and not of the best quality, but that's to be expected. The voice is transmitted well, it is audible/understandable. For role play or games with kids, I was happy with the quality of these walkie talkies.
