I just got this and set it up but then thought about how to test the system. I called the ring and found out that the support people don't know very well about this device, even at multiple levels of customer support, and can give false information about it. In the end, I was told very clearly that this Z combo device could somehow just trigger a notification through the ring. and there is no way to verify this operation. It definitely cannot trigger a real fire alarm or a fire alarm system in a ring system. It makes a decent chirp that a ring smoke detector can detect to sound an alarm and send the fire department. The handset is the ONLY way to employ an active professional fire surveillance service. If you want to test the handset, a professional monitoring service will call you and call the fire department. Then they will mark it as a false alarm after hearing from you that there is no fire. As far as I can tell, there are no additional benefits in this version unless you are interested in professional monitoring services. In fact, if you don't set it up properly with a handset and intuitively connect this device thinking you have integrated smoke detection with an active monitoring service without a handset, then it's much more dangerous because it can lead to misunderstandings. Again, just to be clear, simply pairing it with the ring does almost nothing other than send you a notification. It MUST be successfully tested by the application with a LISTENER.
