Remove the cotter pins from the door and place them on the glass. With a flat head screwdriver I removed 90% of the old glue. Installation was very easy and I just lit my first fire on 10/19/2020 and could immediately tell that I had complete control over the airflow with my damper. Last year it was at full capacity due to poor sealing of the door. I recommend changing this seal a year or two. For the record, I burn every night from early November through March or April and my pad has lasted 2 years.
