I've recently started using Dragon NaturallySpeaking in the office to minimize typing and mouse use which causes tendinitis in mine wrists. I first tried the analog mic that came with the software and then a cheap USB mic. Both had a headset with a microphone sticking out on the side. While the speech recognition was fine with her, I found it incredibly uncomfortable and awkward to use because I work in an environment with a lot of distractions and because I often find myself having to move around when I'm typing an email or a note dictate a few feet away to find relevant documents. Headsets were bulky; I felt silly wearing them when someone was talking to me in my office; and I kept tripping over the cable trying to move. I also found wearing something on my head and ears for several hours was uncomfortable. So I decided to try this magical device. He sat comfortably in front of my monitor; I no longer trip over the cable because the mic doesn't move. When someone walks into my office, I don't feel like I have to move or hide the mic to avoid distracting the other person, and the power button lets me turn it off quickly instead of saying "mic off." . " (stupid and time consuming because you have to wait for the Dragon to recognize the command) or click the mouse on the icon which turns off the software. For my purposes the difference between this microphone and the headset version is like a day and a night I will note a couple of downsides: first, the detection is slightly worse than a good USB mic headset - maybe 95% on this one versus 98% on a better headset mic; second, if you use the Dragon feature If it reads aloud what you dictated, you'll need a headset mic or some other way of listening.I literally never use this feature, so to me the logistical benefits of this mic far outweigh the slight decrease in speech recognition accuracy.
