Amazing sound quality for such a cheap amp!

This is my top D amp and it was so cheap I didn't know what to expect. I'm a musician and music lover and very picky about the sound quality of my gear, and this little amp, no bigger than a paperback book, exceeded my wildest expectations. I had hoped it would have clean, clear, balanced and detailed mids and highs, but wasn't sure what to expect from the bass produced. Well, this little beast has the fastest, punchiest, cleanest bass of any amp I've ever owned, as well as the best pitch detection. It also has excellent clarity and detail across the audio range, with very low distortion and great instrument separation in the mix, without blurring and yet always sounding very natural and not overly analytical, with perfect tonal balance. . Another thing that strikes me is the sharp picture and 3D soundstage, where all the instruments don't seem to come out of the speakers, but rather float in the air around and between the speakers. My Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 speakers have never sounded so good, even with Kenwood's 100W per channel integrated amplifier or Kenwood's Integra receiver. The AB-class is dead if the D-class can, especially with much lower prices and much more efficiency. This amp probably won't play at deafening levels in a concert hall, but I don't expect it and I'll never play it that loud anyway. With a volume control between 11 and 12 o'clock it produces all the volume I've ever used. I will never use bluetooth so can't comment on how well it works. But for streaming or playing CDs, paired with a good DAC or inexpensive DVD player with analog RCA outputs like my $40 Sony DVP-SR510H (which has a better DAC and analog output stage and sounds better than my 20 year old vintage UK made Arcam CD player for $600) and a pair of good bookshelf speakers for $200-300 and you have one damn good sounding system for less than $500 or $600! With this Sony amplifier and DVD player, I'm happier than I ever could have imagined.

Pros
  • nice thing
Cons
  • some problems

Cool little amp. Not a lot of kick obviously but great for the application intended.
