Review on Nikwax Cotton Proof Waterproofing: Enhance Durability & Repel Water by Shannon Saunders

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Didn't work for us either.

I had a cotton blend fabric which I washed with regular detergent first as it wasn't waterproof to begin with. I have a top loading machine and added the recommended amount of waterproofing grout and set the machine to 1/4 load to allow the machine to fill and mix the grout before adding fabric. After it finished its cycles I put it in the dryer on low speed for a while and then hung it to dry completely. My fabric collected water in some places and leaked in others. Fearing that the washing machine would use too much water to make the impregnation solution too thin, we added the solution to the tank with a small amount of water and kept the solution to water ratio much higher. We soak the fabric for about 3 hours, shaking and turning the fabric frequently, then hang to dry. The fabric absorbed water better but still had places where water seeped through a little. We have read that people have had mixed results and I regret to say that we are part of a group of underdogs. My fabric is somewhat waterproof but it definitely doesn't absorb water droplets as they show in their online video.
