Review on High-Performance Sigma 30mm F1.4 Art Lens πŸ“· for Canon: A Must-Have for Precision and Creative Photography by Agung Rey ᠌

The best product, from those that I have viewed, I advise everyone!

Used on 650d. I want to make a reservation right away - I consider the lens not as a portrait lens, but as a staffer. And he copes with this task by as much as 200% - a convenient focal length, a good viewing angle, and aperture allows you to either refuse the flash altogether, or set it to a minimum. With it, I never set the ISO above the threshold (1600 is already on the border of horror for a camera jpeg), the only thing is that you need to make sure that the shutter speed is no more than 1/30-1/50 s. In general, it can be practically not removed from the carcass at all. As a pure portrait painter, he is not very good in my personal opinion. You can use it, of course, it depends on personal taste preferences and with some reservations - it's still not a portrait focal length. The 30mm DOF itself has much more depth than the 50mm, and perspective distortion will force you to move further away, further increasing the DOF. Plus, in the summer in the sun without a gray filter, you can’t shoot in the open, you need to tighten it up to 2.0-2.8. The result is only a slight blur of the background or a hint of it. I personally like it - you can unobtrusively emphasize the subject (I really don’t like it when the background is blurred into the trash). In the dark, this is also a plus - a large depth of field allows you to accurately convey the middle and background. For close combat and good bokeh, it is better to use longer lenses - 50/85/100/135. But full-length portraits, some half-length ones, shots of the category "I'm in the background ." - this is his element (I have most of these shots). The perspective does not collapse as much as on telephoto lenses - everything looks quite natural, as our eyes see. . If you know all the features, advantages and disadvantages, the lens will become a good tool in your hands and give a lot of nice shots. . PS: I do not see any alternatives to it, except perhaps the Canon 35 2.0 IS USM. The stabilizer is, of course, a very, very significant plus (winning stop 2 at least compared to sigma due to exposure), but the price is at least 1.5 times higher or even more! And the luminosity is a little less all the same. There is also an older brother sigma 35 Art, but here again the price and dimensions. If there was a goal to switch to ff in the near future, of course the scales would swing in the other direction. . TOTAL: In general, if you think to take / not to take - do not think, just buy and enjoy!

Pros
  • - It's just a wonderful lens! - Very comfortable focal length for crop, very good as a staffer - Aperture, 1.4 - working! You can even shoot blacks stealing coal at night. For a crop with low working ISOs, I think this is vital - Bokeh is subjectively quite pleasant, and if there are light sources in the frame, the eye is very happy)) - The price does not bite, in the secondary market - so generally funny for such a thing. - The design is a fairy tale! Metal and high quality plastic. You feel that in a hand - a thing! Half a canon at almost the same cost looks like just a kindergarten craft. - The optimal weight size is not a sledgehammer, like 35 art (for a lens that you will carry around your neck 50% of the time, this is critically important, I think) and not light, with a comfortable grip. - Sharpness suits me personally at absolutely any aperture position. HA I do not see - at least there is no crime, since they are not conspicuous. - A nice bonus is a very good bag and hood. A trifle of course, but still good!
Cons
  • - Requires alignment with a docking station, or careful selection for back-to-front focuses. Otherwise it lathers. My copy had a small front, I was even disappointed at first with the choice. But after buying the docking station everything is gone - If there was a price stabilizer, it would not exist - I don’t know if the lens can be attributed to the shortcomings: in the dark, you can only focus on a pre-selected focus point. Points on the arms, shoulders, etc. are highlighted, but not on the face. But something tells me that it's not the lens. If you fix the focus point, then there have never been problems.

And yes, choosing between canon 50 1.4 and this lens, (for crop) for me, sigma is the best choice.
