You will need this tool if your vehicle does not come with an oil dipstick. Remember that there is no mark to tell you whether your transmission fluid is within reach or not. It has depth markings that tell you the depth of the fluid in the transmission sump. You need to know what gear you have and then you need to look at the chart to determine how deep your gear should be. You will be told to measure the temperature of the transmission oil. As an approximation you can drive your car for a bit and then read the depth and compare it to the "hot" transmission. I used this on my Dodge Nitro to check the fluid level after a fluid change. Worked great. The hardest part was figuring out what gear I had.
