Review on πŸ“ Enhanced Digital Painting Thickness Gauge - ALLOSUN EM2271 by Trevor French

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Enough for comparing panels or for Tesla owners!

I'm not quite sure about the expected tolerance, the instructions expressly state "The measurement accuracy is not guaranteed for coatings on steel". Hence my skepticism; I tested a 2013 BMW that had only been waxed 2 or 3 times and was only 1-2 mils thick. It's impossible for a car with undamaged paint and basecoat to have just 1 mil. I then checked the bag and the gauge read 2 mils. I've put two sheets together and it says 3 mil. I have accurate stocks at work and will do further testing but any device that says steel based measurements are inaccurate isn't good enough to tell the color on a non- Measure Tesla vehicle! I think the advantage is that it can see significant differences from one panel to another. I'll look for something more specific. 3 mil thick plastic, an aluminum sheet, a steel strap. As you can see in the attached images, the instrument measured 3 mil thick plastic as 3 mil with aluminum backing. He measured the same 1 mil piece of plastic with a steel pad. I'm not sure how anyone says they got "accurate" readings." As I said, this seems to work on an aluminum base, but not exactly on steel. Use for me. I'm completely open for suggestions from other users or the manufacturer. I don't see any size options and the manual doesn't give any guidance. The description definitely gave more than what was expected.

Pros
  • Check, measure and check
Cons
  • Slightly torn
