When we bought our trailer a year ago I fitted a yellow hitch lock to it. The pendant is kept inside and I felt safe. However, I've heard of trailer theft recently, and while nothing happened at our facility, I've begun to question our locks. A quick Google search convinced me that the padlock we were using was nothing more than a yellow decoration. My choice fell on AmpLock or a clutch lock from Proven Industries. Both are impenetrable heavy metal, but I think the puck lock mechanism is the weakest part of the Proven Industries solution. With no evidence to refute these concerns, we contacted Amplock to confirm the correct model through measurements and pictures. Amplock was very prompt and polite in providing information for our trailer. Yesterday we installed the Amplock system. This thing is very heavy, massive and impressive. Consists of 2 heavy parts. The coupler lock holds the ball insert in place and frees your hands to easily attach the locking piece to the coupler edge. Click the safety pin and Fort Knox will have a little bit more than this baby! Yes, there is some wobble and play, but at least I know the lock itself won't be distorted. I know a determined thief can steal our pocket, but with AmpLock I think it at least deters. And that's the best I can hope for.
