Definitely a small backpack. I agree with other reviews that the photos on the listing make it look bigger. However, it is PERFECT for our 3 year old. We let him carry him all the time when we go out so he can carry his change of clothes (3 pairs), toys, napkins and a leak proof mug. If you want to use this backpack as a diaper bag replacement, this is not a bag. If you are looking for something that would suit a 2-5 year old then this is perfect. Since not too many things fit in, it will never be too heavy for your little one. We also get a lot of compliments from people on how it looks. I love this cute little bag.
