MAKE A MISTAKE. JUST FINISHED. MUST WATCH.

I was looking for something new to complete a complex woodworking project. I used to use varnish and polyurethane as a finish. But sanding between coats and steaming prevented me from enjoying my woodworking projects. I was so excited when I saw Odie's Oil! Non-toxic coating that is easy to apply and polish, durable and easy to repair. Great idea, but too good to be true. I've watched every youtube video, every instagram post, read the instructions and done anything that could take me to the promised land when it comes to easy to apply wood finishes. I planned my work and then worked according to my plan. I prepared my work and sanded it to 1000 grit (audi 400 recommended). I applied a super penetrating oil and then buffed it off after a two hour soak. Let it dry for 72 hours and then bring Odie's oil with you. Leave it on for a further two hours and then buff. Leave to dry overnight. I was a bit disappointed with the look. Really flat looking. It brought out the color of the wood but looked dull. I then applied Odie's Wood Oil and gave the boring non-existent finish look again. On a bench I also built I used super penetrating oil, THREE coats of Odie's Oil and then wood oil. The same methodology as above was used. Another boring look. And here's the real problem. You should follow Audi's recommendations for cleaning your woodworking project. Clorox wipes ruin the finish (I know I've experimented and was horrified at the results). Now I'm looking for ways to remove the furniture I've built and reapply a different finish. I spent nearly $300 on Odie's products for a finish that isn't very pretty to look at. While it can be easily repaired, the other factors mentioned above have made it not a worthwhile product in the future.
