Review on WXGA LCD 3000 Lumen Projector by Jacob Andreti

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good projector at a reasonable price

Today I unpacked the NEC NP510W projector. Setup was easy (apart from the LAN configuration). The image was sharp and bright and hung right on the wall in my office. It will be a great portable meeting projector for daily presentations. Just two complaints (both minor): 1. This thing generates a lot of heat! Even on economy mode, you probably don't want to be sitting right in front of an exhaust fan in a small room.2. The LAN port is configured (out of the box) to 192.168.0.10. There is no way to change the LAN settings in the OSD menu. You can't even put it in DHCP mode from the remote. I had to connect my computer directly and set up a local IP on the same subnet as the projector. After configuring for DHCP I just created a reservation. Don't miss the NEC PC Control utility. It can be downloaded for free from the NEC website and allows you to control one or more projectors connected to a local area network. You have full control of turning the unit on and off, changing inputs, setting up charts and getting lamp and filter hours available. I'm not sure why they didn't put it on the CD.

Pros
  • Good product at a price
Cons
  • thin
