The sump for my reef tank is divided into three and I have heto algae in one section. I used an LED spotlight to illuminate the pair but I added this light. Wow the heto growth is amazing and I'm about to have to remove some of it for the first time in years. I'm sure it's waterproof too - I had a pump failure and the whole device ended up submerged, but no water got into the case at all and it looked brand new once the water level went down. The only downside is as others have mentioned. that the clamp will not work in a tank with a plastic rim. I have plexiglass separating the heto area from the rest of the pan, so I was able to mount a light on it, but it didn't work on the plastic pan rim (which I made from a standard 20 gallon glass aquarium). ).
