Updated 9/23/19 : I had a bad connection on the top of my washing machine and this mat saved my floor! For those of you worried about the mat not being hard, just know that's a good thing - you can fold the mat to absorb any water that you might need to pour out. This makes it easier to transport the mat without spilling water on the floor when lifting the mat. I have a Haier compact top loading washing machine (model HLP24E) and have used an IKEA Ivar system to create a "washing area" outside of the kitchen. I use a Snap-On Adapter + 12" Stainless Steel Kelaro Washing Machine Hose + 10ft Electrolux Frigidaire Dishwasher Drain Hose as my kitchen sink connector. Perfect for the shelf under my washing machine, this rug makes me feel more comfortable to prevent leaks or other catastrophic events from happening on my apartment floor. The carpet isn't hard, so if it's filled with a lot of water things can go wrong, but it should hold enough water to prevent disaster if you keep an eye on the washing machine while it's operating normally.
