I use a plane for my hobby, but getting the butt joints perfectly aligned is a challenge. Joining two boards at a 45 degree angle to form a board at a 90 degree angle is even more difficult. I managed to do it, but not without a lot of sanding to match the finishes. A final sanding was required on these attachments, but was not required on the biscuit. We connect the boards on the lid of the chest in the attached photo with tongue and groove. Corner joints are cut with a size 45 cutter.
