I use a bunch of regular Hatchbox wood, so I was dying to try the new colors when they came out recently. First, bad - by all accounts, brown is much, much more pliable and less woody than original Hatchbox wood filament (which closely resembles raw wood and is indistinguishable from natural wood after sanding, staining, and finishing). Unlike their regular wood filament, once printed it has a kind of hard glaze that sands away with little effort revealing something close to the texture of the original material. Very strange. Haven't tried dyeing and finishing yet, and given the darkness, dyeing seems a bit pointless. Well, if someone presented me with this material simply as PLA, forgetting that it's wood filament, I'd say it was the most beautiful filament I've ever printed with. It's silky smooth and glossy, absolutely gorgeous right out of the box. just wow. It also appears to be slightly stronger than the original hatchbox wood, which is also a plus. As a bonus, if anything comes up that needs a touch up, it can be sanded down and (if it behaves like regular hatchbox wood) should respond well to a coat of urethane spray.
