Review on πŸͺ’ Men's Bevel Safety Razor: Double Edge Blades for Bump-Free Shaving by Kimberly Dionne

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Almost perfect, although the imperfections are very serious

Update 3/2021. I have to change my original rating from 4 stars recommended to 2 stars not recommended. The ergonomics of the razor is simply uncertain. It slipped out of his hands several times or rotated during use. If the razor slides sideways in your hand, it can cut your face. I have resigned many times. I have never dropped my Edwin Jagger in all the years I have owned it. I really like the angle of the shaving head, that's the only thing I like about it, everything else is a disaster. Beveled blades are mediocre and dull quickly, so I use Gillette Blues instead. Bevel brand DE blades are overpriced for what they are, just regular DE blades, nothing special. I think a lot of the positive feedback here comes from people switching from cartridge shaving to wet shaving with a DE safety razor and it's better. The Bevel is nothing special compared to other DE safety razors. --- Original review below --- Background about me. I have used a shaving brush and safety razor for over 20 years. This has been my standard shaving method for most of my adult life. Also, this is a review of the Bevel razor, not its blades, brushes, cream or system. I thought the razor was a marketing advertisement and all safety razors were essentially the same. I have been using the Edwin Jagger DE89 for over ten years now. I took the blade off my current Jagger and dipped it into the bevel. I noticed immediately that the shave was getting closer and yet there was more skin on my face (fewer razor cuts). I was amazed that it was noticeably more accurate and comfortable. I needed fewer passes to shave. This is now my standard razor. However, there are some serious issues I have with the shaver. First, the head has all rounded edges. This makes it very difficult to hold when screwing/unscrewing the head to change the blade. After the parts are separated, the blade is inserted into the head. It is very difficult to pull out the blade without touching the edge of the razor. The whole assembly/disassembly process is annoying. It's even difficult to pick it up off my stand without dropping it and running your fingers along the edge of the head. Most safety razors have square sides with an unsharpened blade edge, making it easier to pick up and change the blade. The handle is also thin and smooth. Again very easy to fall, hard to hold on. For something that's always held with wet, soapy hands, this is a terrible design. Now I'm a fan of Bevel and I want them to succeed. I think they don't go well with the 2.0 design with possible concave fingertip marks on the side of the non-blade head. Textured knurling, like on the handle on X-Acto knives, would also be nice. Also, I would like to see an adjustment to the handle length and diameter. I would happily pay for a custom aftermarket grip length and diameter and replace the current grip. Just as Apple realized that a one-size-fits-all phone isn't for everyone, Bevel would have done well if they made multiple grips of different thicknesses and lengths. In the meantime, I recommend using a towel to hold your head when changing blades so you don't cut your hands.

Pros
  • HIGH QUALITY - Perfectly weighted brass handle glides over the skin with no added pressure
Cons
  • Retrofittable
