It doesn't work without them!
I took them crevass climbing twice a week to Vedova, Wyoming for several months for several months where the granite is very rough and the gloves show no signs of wear. I've climbed cracks without gloves, just tape, and I'll never go back. Gluing is a waste of time, it takes time and the tape never sticks as well as I would like. I also love the extra support and padding these gloves give me. My friend also has a pair and loves them too, as do many other climbers I've met. I heard that Black Diamond climbing gloves are not durable at all.
