Don't expect the width and depth of the top pocket to be a big deal. If you CAN put your smartphone in (my phone is too wide) and it falls to the floor I don't know how you can get it out without cutting your pocket. But if you're like me and don't think it's wise to put your smartphone on your chest, white, physically with wood and iron or whatever, and don't think it's wise to have a sharp tool on your chest, you can just ignore this bag. Then you'll appreciate how comfortable this apron is (so you'll soon stop thinking about putting it on) and how naturally you feel protected by the relatively thick but pliable waxed canvas when working with the dirty stuff. . I tightened the top rear cross strap to keep one of the shoulder straps from falling off and it has been perfect for any time I have been working on a project since. The length is also good for a medium height guy like me and I feel like it makes me come across as a serious and skilled (if not handsome) handyman. ; )
