I'm not a professional, just a keen enthusiast who loves Canon cameras and products. I DO NOT EARN ANY MONEY from my photos, I just enjoy taking great photos of my family and friends. I was in the mood to buy a Canon 70-200 2.8 IS II ($2100) and then saw this lens at a local camera rental. The shop owner had nothing but good things to say about the Sigma and gave me Canon and Sigma 70-200 2.8 lenses to try and encouraged me to use one over the weekend. I picked up a Sigma to see what the hype was about. I WAS SHOCKED! I took over 1000 shots over the weekend, attended several events so I put it to good use and was very impressed. If you have kids who play sports, the Sigma lens is great. The autofocus was lightning fast and I was able to track my subjects quickly and easily. 2.8 f-stop results in great bokeh, which photoreceptors were happy with, commenting that it "looks professional". Performance: Excellent fast autofocus, clean and crisp images. Slight vignetting at the edges is mostly noticeable at 200mm. The focus and zoom ring is switchable (compared to a normal Canon lens), the zoom ring is close to the front lens, the focus ring is towards the camera (takes getting used to). It's a bit heavy for long-range shooting, but helps strengthen your left hand. No complaints so far, except from my wife, who gets embarrassed when I expose this big bad guy at my kids' events (I think that's cool). Well, the photos speak for themselves. Spend money and get Canon. If you're like me, have regular bills, have a family and just want to take great photos without spending money on college, SIGMA is a great and smart choice. Stabilization Sound: You can hear it activate during recording. , but your ear is a few inches away. Some people complain about the noise, I don't pay attention, it's not that bad. My Canon 70-300mm (not L) also makes similar noises. PROS: Great price, affordable Fast autofocus Excellent stability control Solid build quality Made in Japan (big plus for me) CONS: Not weatherproof Heavy (like Canon) You can still have the Lens EnvyBlack coating which made the lens warmer in the sun (although performance hasn't diminished). I've attached some example photos I took comparing the Canon and Sigma. I used the appropriate lens to shoot at the enemy lens (Canon 6d). They both looked great to me, but like I said, I'm no pro. The other two photos were taken with a SIGMA 70-200 2.8 APO EX DG HSM OS in a local pub with a Canon 6D.
