The speaker itself is excellent. Even in a suboptimal room like mine, it creates good surround sound. I expect that a more controlled space is even better. The microphone setup is simple and effective. Bluetooth connects easily. Yes, it does need a subwoofer, which shouldn't come as a surprise. If you're thinking of spending that much on a soundbar, the cost of a subwoofer shouldn't be a big factor, or you probably already have one. This prevents Apple Airplay from playing music on multiple Yamaha speakers at the same time. Which might be related to Apple and not the MusicCast app. However, part of my decision to buy a Yamaha was due to its multi-room capabilities. If you use Pandora, SiriusXM, Spotify or have a dedicated server, multi-room communication works well. Updated 01/11/18. I now have three other MusicCast speakers in addition to this soundbar. I had a lot of trouble playing through more than one speaker at the same time. It dawned on me that my wireless router might be the culprit after I had trouble streaming videos to a new TV. . I always prefer a multi-speaker soundbar setup, but this is a good alternative.
