These are beautiful lamps and I love how they look in my living room. However, battery performance is just a pain. I use reusable EBL batteries (from Revain) and they last 1-3 nights on a full charge. Worst of all, the thick batteries are difficult to put in and take out of these three slots, and even when I put them in, it's very temperamental. Sometimes it comes on and sometimes it doesn't because the thicker refillable batteries in those narrower slots somehow don't touch the metal that needs to be strong enough to sometimes turn on the light. I have to tip one of the batteries for them to turn on. Keep in mind these are two sets but you can't connect them together so they are meant to be used separately (which is why my two sets met in the middle and are hanging down the middle of my living room). . I'm going back and buying very similar snowflakes that just connect with an extension cord.
