Great value for money but don't expect miracles

I bought this unit as a gift for my sister and her kids so I don't have much experience with it, just played through it few tests to make sure it deserves to be given as a gift. Too often you will see projectors on Revain and other reseller sites overstate stats and understate performance. Needless to say, having tested this little fella, I'm a little sad to give it away! Connectivity on this unit is actually pretty good, with HDMI for most modern video sources and a USB and SD card slot for flash drives or SD card movies. There's also a second USB port for 5V output for Chromecast and other dongle-style media players. You have a keyed 3.5mm A/V input connector for composite video, but you also have a VGA input connector for higher quality analog video if required. Finally, a 3.5mm headphone audio-out lets you route audio from the projector to an external source if the built-in speakers aren't loud enough for your needs. Another nice feature of this projector is its form factor; It is much smaller than most branded home video projectors. After slipping the included lens cap over the device, I felt comfortable tossing it in a backpack or travel bag. The device itself is very light, weighing less than the 2.02 lbs listed in the product specification table. The main disadvantage of this projector is not in the device itself, but in the misinformation about its characteristics. This is NOT a 4500 lumen or 1080p projector. The promotional images on the product page state a resolution of 1280 x 720, while the data sheet states native 1080p and the title contains the misleading but technically correct phrase "1080p supported", meaning native 1080p can be viewed, albeit on a reduced scale. To be honest, at this price point, resolution isn't as important as just a big, visible, sharp image. Sure, there's some brightness and color vignetting in the corners, and the window screen effect is noticeable if you look closely at the image, but overall I'm very happy with the image for the price I paid. The projector can handle some ambient light in your projection environment, but the less ambient light you have, the better the image will look. Ideally, the room where you use the projector should be as dark as the movie theater when you use the projector. The supplied screen is sufficient. The material is suitable for projection, your mileage will depend on how even you can get the projection surface. This is usually accomplished by stretching the fabric over the frame and the included wall hooks will do the job. If you are smart and can find a good way to assemble it I think the fabric in the kit will do well. Pros: - Great value for the $100 price - Plenty of A/V inputs - Compact and lightweight - Lampless light source - Credit card style remote included Cons: - Brightness and color vignetting - Blurry image in ambient light - Misjudgment of brightness, misleading Ultimately I think this is a great buy for kids movie nights and anyone looking for the wow factor on the big screen without the high price tag usually associated with projectors. Those looking for a cheap home theater projector should look elsewhere, as should those looking for a big screen to view in their living room during the day. I believe that considering the price you are paying for this projector, you should be satisfied with the excellent value for money this projector offers.
