It plays region 1 and 2 discs successfully for me This modified version. So don't worry and don't send it back if you see it - plug it in first and try it. And yes, it's built with a European plug, but it does come with an American power adapter. The mounting of the adapter seemed good, no looseness or hacks, but is made of lightweight plastic so don't step on it. The power cord is only a meter long. Quiet machine at work. Image quality is average and I agree with others that this is a basic entry-level player; no frills. For an underutilized Region 2 player, he does a great job. I haven't had a region 1 not playing like some others have reported, but I'll update my review if that is the case. I don't generally think a 3 star item is good enough to buy, but don't let my average score discourage you if you're looking for a basic and affordable region 2 player that's worth the price - one acceptable value.
