The bowl is great height for our labra-doodle. However the white insert is meant to be free floating. Fill the bowl and let the white piece float. It allows any food crumbs from your dog's mouth and keeps it at the bottom of the bowl. Once the white piece sets on the base of the bowl you can refill it. The water dish is easy to clean and is stable and won't tip over.
