Stained Glass Soldering

I have been using this unit for soldering stained glass windows for about a year. This works well, to get flux smoke off my face when I'm soldering 60/40 about 5-6" apart. Also, it doesn't trap smoke. It's light enough that when I'm working with a large board I can apply it to the glass without damage within 6" there is no flux smell in the whole room, if you make stained glass you know that smell. So I don't have any scientific way to know if it works, but the lack of smell is a good sign๐Ÿคฃ The filter gets a bit uncomfortable over time and I'm replacing it with another filter I'm not entirely sure about the manufacturer recommendations for filter life e review mentions the lack of lead protection, which is not the purpose of this device. You can be exposed to lead in your bloodstream if you touch lead and enter your body through cuts, eyes, or mouth. At the temperature at which we work with stained glass, lead cannot vaporize. This setup lends itself well to chemical flux burnout. I also use a respirator with this unit as I am exposed to flux fumes on a daily basis in my work as a glass artist. 4 stars because it's quite loud, I have to turn on the music to hear it. Overall a good buy and a reasonable price.
