This is not for someone who has planted a tank as their only light source; This light is not bright enough to get the plants to grow unless it is a VERY low light type and you already have a stabilized tank. I use this plus the LED lights that come with my tank to keep my plants growing slowly but they will still grow so yes. In terms of the actual lighting, the different lights are actually a really cool feature and the suction cups require some skill to juuuust get them right, but so far it's been about 3 weeks since I've had to 're-glue' them and it has been just so I pushed them to the side when I took the cap off to clean my tank. However, I will say read the comments to learn how to use the remote control. lol The instructions are just pictures so you don't really know you have to be very close to the small receiver box for the remote to work. But once I figure out how to use it, it's a good little light for your aquarium.
