Review on πŸ’‘ SilverStone SX700-LPT 700W SFX-L Power Supply - Silent 120mm Fan, Fully Modular Cables by Sara White

PSU failed after 6 hours

BAD: The PSU ran for about 6 hours before my computer randomly shut down. Since the shutdown time between each boot reduced to a few seconds, I assume it was a PSU thermal shutdown. The fan should not spin until 30% load is reached, although the fan never spins. The fan was mounted on a ventilation grille on the front of the case, giving it more than enough airflow. Given the many other issues reported by other buyers with this power supply, I didn't want to bother with a replacement. GOOD: This power supply has a lot of cables compared to other SFX power supplies. There are even connectors for 4-pin and 3-pin floppy drives. Although I'm not sure why. I originally planned to use the 700w Silverstone instead of the 600w Corsair because I needed extra headroom for two graphics cards, but I think the risk of this PSU failing is much higher than the risk of overloading the 600W power supply. The Corsair SF600 treats me much better and I haven't had any issues.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Poorly thought out
