PSU failed after 6 hours

BAD: The PSU ran for about 6 hours before my computer randomly shut down. Since the shutdown time between each boot reduced to a few seconds, I assume it was a PSU thermal shutdown. The fan should not spin until 30% load is reached, although the fan never spins. The fan was mounted on a ventilation grille on the front of the case, giving it more than enough airflow. Given the many other issues reported by other buyers with this power supply, I didn't want to bother with a replacement. GOOD…

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Poorly thought out

I purchased this product based on the characteristics above. It also has a power of 300W and an efficiency of 80+ Bronze. Because PSUs are most efficient at 50 percent load (150W for a 300W PSU), low-power builds can get very close to this peak efficiency range. I would have preferred it to be an SFX-L to allow a >92mm fan to be placed in the product for even quieter operation, but for the price it's acceptable. The noise level is excellent. I used about up to 150 watts and didn't hear the…

Excellent, even in a build without SFX (see details). Recommended

To be honest. I really had no intention of buying a SilverStone Technology 300W SFX Form Factor 80 Plus Bronze with +12V Single Rail, Active PFC (ST30SF). The thing is, I built my first mini-ITX build since Via Eden. Although I wanted a smaller system, I deliberately bought a Cooler Master Elite 110 RC-110-KKN2 to use a standard sized power supply. The problem was that the placement of the CPU on the motherboard combined with the height of the stock Ryzen 5 3400G Wraith Spire cooler and the…
